Paper Night Kit · for quizmasters

Keep your paper night. Brainflood does the math.

Teams still write on answer sheets. You still mark them. Brainflood adds up the scores, shows which questions got 20% and which got 95%, settles the tiebreak, puts the standings on the TV and prints the paperwork. Your questions and your voice stay yours.

Free plan, no card. Players never make an account.

How a paper night runs

Your night, minus the adding up.

You run the room the way you always have. Brainflood sits on your laptop and takes the jobs nobody became a quizmaster to do.

  1. Teams check in

A captain scans the table poster and types the team name. Or you type it.

  2. They play on paper

Printed answer sheets, pencils, arguments. Exactly as before.

  3. You mark by question

Tick each right answer in one grid. Totals and get rates fall out.

  4. The TV shows standings

After each save, or held back for a last-to-first reveal.

  5. Settle it and print

A closest-number tiebreak, then certificates and a results poster.

Paper, phones, or both

Two ways in, one scoreboard.

Some tables want a pen, some want their phones. In a hybrid round both play the same questions. Phone answers grade themselves, you mark the paper ones, and every team lands on the same standings.

How a hybrid round scores Phone answers go straight to Brainflood and are graded as they arrive. Paper sheets go to the host, who marks each answer right or wrong. Both feed one scoreboard, where phone teams and paper teams are ranked together. PHONE TABLES BRAINFLOOD grades as they land PAPER TABLES 1. Saturn 2. Good for a room with no signal at the back tables, or a regular who won't touch a phone at the bar.
Bingo

Phone cards claim Bingo on their own. When a paper player shouts, check their card against the called items.

Brainpardy

Paper teams can't buzz. Pick their cell, then use Score a team by hand. For a Daily Double, enter their wager for them.

Bluff

Type in each paper team's fake answer, then their vote, so they're shuffled in with everyone else's.

Which rounds run on which.

You set the answer mode on each round, so one night can open on paper, switch to phones for a Lightning round, and finish on paper again.

Score by question

See which questions got 20% and which got 95%.

Mark the sheets in one grid: teams down the side, questions across the top. Round totals add themselves. The bottom row shows how many teams got each question.

  • Fast to mark. Arrow keys move, Space ticks. "All right" and "Clear" fill a whole row.
  • A summary after every save. "Teams got 65% right. Hardest: Q7 (20%)."
  • Your get rates follow the question. Library cards read "Your teams: 62% got it", so next time you know where a question sits.
  • Phone rounds count too. The grid is for paper rounds; get rates also count any round played on phones, so a mixed night still adds up.

Teams got 65% right. Hardest: Q7 (20%). Easiest: Q2 (100%).

House rules

Your scoring, not ours.

Most quizmasters have their own rules. The grid knows the common ones, so you stop keeping a side spreadsheet for them.

Joker

Double one round, once a night

Tap Joker on a team's row and that round counts twice. Brainflood remembers it, so a team cannot play a second one.

List questions

Score by how many they got

"Name the seven dwarfs" is one question with many answers. Mark it as a list and type how many each team got, a point per item.

Set all

Rounds that are worth more

Final round worth 2 a question? Set all, done. Or set any single question to its own value.

Playing for prizes

Ringers and staff can play, not win

Untick one box and that team still plays and stays on the table, but certificates and the results poster skip them. Only you see the badge.

Quiet penalty

+N to every other team

Caught a phone out under the table? Give everyone else a point instead of docking one. Same result, less drama.

Tiebreaks

Closest number wins

For ties and estimation rounds. See how it works below.

Tiebreaks and estimation rounds

Closest number, settled in seconds.

Type the real answer and each team's guess. Brainflood ranks them and shows the margin.

  • "Without going over" is one tick. Guesses over the answer drop out.
  • Ties share a place. No coin flips.
  • Award points to the winner, or on a ladder down the field.
  • Show on TV puts the result on the big screen for the room.
Closest number

Real answer 88 Without going over

  2. #2Les Quizerables80off by 8
  3. overThe Regulars91

On the TV: Closest: Quizteama Aguilera (84). The answer was 88.

Untick "without going over" and The Regulars win it, 3 away instead of 4.

Team check-in

Stop typing twenty team names.

The one phone job on a paper night. A captain scans the check-in poster on the table, types the team name, and the team lands on your roster. Answers still go on paper.

  • No app, no account. One field and a button.
  • Regulars tap their name. Teams from your last ten weeks show up as suggestions, with a "6 weeks in a row" streak.
  • A check-in screen for the TV, and a wall poster and table tent in the print pack.
  • No phones at the table? Type the names in yourself, like always.

The TV

Standings on the screen, the way you like them.

Save a round's marks and the standings go up on the TV. Or hold them back and save the drama for later.

  • Update the TV after saving is on by default. Turn it off for a quiet night.
  • Hide points on the TV. Ranks only, no raw scores. Fewer arguments about marking.
  • Reveal, last to first. One button counts the room down to the winner.
  • Any TV in the bar. Open app.brainflood.com/tv in its browser and type your 5-character game code.

Your questions

A library that remembers. A show you can take with you.

You write the questions. Brainflood keeps track of them.

  • Bring your archive. Paste rows from Google Sheets or Excel, upload an .xlsx or CSV file, and check a preview before anything is saved.
  • Paste a whole round from a Doc. "Q: / A:" lists and numbered lists both work.
  • It remembers where you used it. Each card shows when you last asked it and at which venue, and warns you about repeats inside eight weeks.
  • Fill-ins skip what you asked lately. Auto-fill from the bank leans toward questions your regulars have not heard.
  • Room for your notes. Private notes (never on the TV or phones), a source link, an evergreen flag and an author credit.
  • Export to PowerPoint, any time. From the print pack or the Print Center: a slide per question, answers after each round or each question, speaker notes included.

Music rounds

Cut your clips without another app.

Upload a song, drag the start and end handles on the waveform, and preview exactly what the room will hear.

  • Drag or nudge the handles, or pick a 10, 15, 20 or 30 second preset.
  • The TV plays your clip from your start, for your length. Not from 0:00.
  • Fade in and out in the preview and in the downloaded file.
  • Download the round as one file. Every clip back to back as one WAV, to play from your own laptop.
  • Answer sheets with Artist and Title boxes, because most music rounds score both.

The waveform editor and the one-file download work with uploaded audio files. YouTube songs can still set a start and a length.

All of it is on the Free plan.

Every tool on this page works on the Free plan, with no card. The Free plan runs 3 games a month at one venue, with up to 8 teams a game. When your room outgrows that, a paid plan raises the limits. The paper tools stay the same on every plan. See the plans.

Questions quizmasters ask

The straight answers

No. Answers stay on paper. Check-in is the only phone step, and it is optional: you can type team names in yourself. Players never make an account.

No. Paste your rounds from a spreadsheet or a Doc, or upload an .xlsx or CSV file. The library of 13,000+ questions is there if you want filler, and you never have to touch it.

Yes. Any game exports to PowerPoint (.pptx) at any time: a title slide, round slides, one slide per question, answers after each round or after each question, and speaker notes. Run it from Brainflood, from PowerPoint, or both.

No. Scoring, stats, tiebreaks and the print pack all work from your laptop alone. If there is a TV, open app.brainflood.com/tv on it, type your game code, and it shows check-in, standings and tiebreak results.
